Brigham Young University offers a wide variety of international opportunities, such as study abroad programs, performing arts programs, field study/research, internships, and faculty, staff, and administrative travel. BYU is strongly committed to helping you be safe while traveling abroad. At the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, we gather security/safety information from a variety of government, nongovernment, academic, and in-country sources. We also maintain close contact with other university international programs and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they evaluate security for their personnel.
The university has recognized the importance of establishing international travel policies and procedures as well as health, safety, and security guidelines that all university international travelers should follow. However, in these changing times, it is also necessary that each traveler take responsibility for his/her own safety by studying and understanding safety and health risks prior to departure, staying informed, and conducting themselves accordingly while abroad. While acknowledging that no single plan will address all contingencies and fully guarantee the utmost safety of any traveler, we have listed some important international travel information with associated links to help you prepare before your departure and to help you stay as safe as possible while you travel and reside abroad.
Start early! Start now! As you consider travel preparations, please take time to carefully read through the information on this site and implement any suggestions that are pertinent to your international travel destinations and activities. This information will help you understand the university’s travel policy, what travel documents you will need, how to eliminate potential problems, reduce and manage security and health risks, understand cultures and customs, know what to do and who to contact for help in the event of an emergency, and how to adjust once you return home.
